    Ghani baba is a versatile poet, and he is my favourite in the whole world. May he rest in peace. Amin

    This information about the life of Ghani Khan is essentially insufficient, mostly cut pasted from wikipedia. I think we can try improving on this. Using more harsh pukhtun language, I think, wikipedia should be copying us rather than us copying them.

  3. Taimur Khan on May 7th, 2007 12:57 am

    Dear Dr. Arslan Rahat-Ullah,

    I agree that the information on this website is insufficient, and hence, I have been asking for apt contributions from silent admirers of Ghani Khan.

    What you see on Wikipedia is what I entirely cut and pasted from this website’s homepage two years ago, plus what others freely altered/added with time. Some of them also appear to have deleted rather unsavory statements like:

    He also wrote The Pathans, a short book in English prose, published in 1958, which like his sculptures and paintings, does not compare well to his poetry, keeping in mind that he is arguably the greatest pashto language poet.

    What exactly do you mean by “harsh pukhtun language”? Forthrightness? Please go ahead with it and teach us…

    a great work of our great pakhtoon poet.

    A great poet that we should be thankful to have been born among us.

    “Ya Allah Shukar che paida de da de kam krum—-Da Pukhtoon da nar wajood de yow andaam krum”

    I hope, every pukhtoon would understand his vision and strive to make his/her own contribution so that we can prosper and develop a good future for us and every one around us.

    To confine the great Ghani Khan to Pashtoons and Pashto is unfair. I being a Persian Afghan love Ghani Khan a lot. When I want to read the great Khayyam in Pashto I read Ghani Khan’s poetry. There is a great resemblance and harmony between Omar Khayyam’s thinking and Ghani Khan. Though, my Native-tongue is Persian (Farsi). I love Ghani Khan and appreciate the folks who have made this website. The information posted on this page is very inedequate. I suggest to make this webpage a bilingual (Pashto and English) page. All his books both peotry and prose should be added to website. The pictures of sculptures should be added alongside with his own pictures.
    Regards Jamshed Aryan

    Ghani khan is one of the gret pashto poet. His poetry is spirtual as well as romantic, but with true essence of life and emotions. his vision of nature and always he seems to be a super nature.

    dear sir,
    having visited sarangi info, may I introduce me (german, 72 years)to you.
    In the years after 1954/55 I had pleasure to write to a penpale at that time.Here name at that time was SHANDANA GHANI KHAN, daughter of ghani khan; and she gave me a wonderful description of here father and grandfather (the frontier ghandi) and also sent me ghani khan`s book “the pathans” which still is with me. I would like to here more about this famous family and their way of life since that former time. If there would be any person to send me a short e-mail, it would make me very happy, even if somebody could tell me if SHANDANA still lives there and what may be here address/phone or e-mail. thks for any help you may be able to offer me! My kindest greetings from germany and best regards.
    yours sincerely: heiner schuster

    I was thinking what I should write here,but nonetheless got my answers reading the comments put by Dr.Arslan Rahatullah, and the answer by Taimur Khan.I think to blame some or to criticise someone is hell easy but to do something for improving and development is hell hard.How many People knew Ghani baba and his creativity in the 70’s and 80’s? Even the Government of our beloved country imposed ban on Baba’s works from time to time.This website is great considering it the first step taken by someone who has introduced Baba to those People who hasn’t seen him or knew him for that matter.Not all who tread are lost.Some People do not learn.

    Nothing has been done so far. Although, there are many lovers of late ghani but nobody has evaluated his works seriously. criticism needs knowledge, both of language and literature. Unfortunately, we have critics that lacks one or the other.

  27. kaliwal khattak on November 20th, 2007 6:19 pm

    No critic has done poetic justice with ghani khan. only praises can not solve the problem. The traditional immature nationalist critics have ruined his works. They, just love him because he was son of Bacha khan and was against priesthood.

    “why i Love Pashtuns because i am, the chief reason why i love him is because “he will wash his face and Oil his beard and Perfume his locks and put on his best Pair of clothes when he goes out to Fight and Die”

    He also says that i want to see my people educated and enlightened.

    I love the poetry and personality of Honorable Ghani Khan Baba. His precious work is a great asset to Pakhtoons. He preserved the rich history of Pakhtoon culture and heritage in his work and poetry, for our upcoming generations. He was the poet of love, beauty and nature. He conveyed the message of peace and wisdom for a Pakhtoon youth. He got an admirable personality, being a youth from his home town, i always admire him and his family. Allah gives peace to his soul and prosperity to his family and friends.

    SPRING

    The spring came again, and brought a message,
    Of hues, of flowers and of light.
    The bartender smiled and brought a full goblet,
    Of rapture, of adolescence and of laughter.

    A dawn came and a night ended,
    Of darkness, of fear and of desire.
    A yellow flower I saw in the evening,
    Conveying the compliments of my sweetheart.

    My mind never accepts that,
    The Creator of flower would make the coldest hell.
    How would He delight in my painful cries,
    Who made for me the daffodils and the sweetheart?

    The green turf, the red flowers;
    The enraptured and inebriated evening;
    This is the proof of the butler’s love,
    The bowl brimful of red wine.

    The enthralling eyes of the bartender,
    Have made this intoxication for me.
    The charming lips of my sweetheart,
    Have made this beautification for me.

    The moon and stars, the ecstatic evening,
    Are the amusement for my sorrows.
    My Lord feels affection for me,
    That is why the world is full of flowers.

    What is spring? My beloved has got ecstatic,
    Diffuses His lustre in every breath, in every heart;
    Diffuses His light in flowers;
    Diffuses the colours of Mount Sinai in the breeze.

    As long as the sight of hues,
    Of vortex, of intoxication, is in the man;
    Till then I will not admit,
    That there will be fires in the hereafter.

    My beloved has not made me for punishment;
    He has made me for friendship;
    He demands from me love, laughter and rapture;
    Whether I am in the mosque or in the idol-temple.

    The spring came again, and brought a message,
    Of hues, of flowers and of light.
    The bartender smiled and brought a full goblet,
    Of rapture, of adolescence and of laughter.

    Again she held in her red fingers,
    To the madman a bowl full of sorrows;
    Full of life, full of separation;
    Full of meeting, of hues, of dreams.

    This is a poem taken from my book, Chirping in a Cage, English translation of the book, Da Panjrey Chaghaar, written by the legendary Pashto poet, Ghani Khan. The book Chirping in a Cage is now available in the market. Price: Rs.100.

    I recently came across this website. Its a good feeling that we don’t forget our legends. We all should share Ghani Khan Baba’s love for the pukhtunwali.

    Ghani khan baba is one of the great names in pashto poetry. i used to listen his songs since when i was child. its nice to read about his biography in google but still there are some aspects of his life which is not explored in it, so its my kind and humble request to Asfandyar wali khan and new NWFP govt to make good website regarding him and also past the work of great man in it. it will be also my suggestion that a committee must be established to translate the work of Ghani Khan Baba in different languages as every human being has the right to be benifited from it.

  60. Jalal on May 11th, 2008 3:32 pm

    Ghani Baba you have always mention that.
    In place of those thousands give me one here;
    Turn my eternal youth to a few years’ rejoicing;
    If you cannot do this, lord, keep your fat houris;
    I neither need them there nor miss them here.
    Those fat and fair ones who yield without entreaty;
    Wide and hungry eyes, wallowing in malmal.
    Lord! My beloved lord! Just grant this one prayer,
    Or else, your Ghani would pine away in love.

    But i request from God.
    Please God….Please Grant us Ghani Khan Baba again.

    “Da Khayyam laas k kachkol de
    Da dala laas k jaam veenam” (ghani baba)
    Ghani baba wasn’t merely a poet but a great politician, humanist, sculpter, painter, poet, philosopher and a good Muslim but unfortunately he was a Pukhtoon & thats the main reason that he didn’t get the height like plate, arastitole, tagore and others.
    Let us make the world feel and acknowlege him.

    Khan Abdul Ghani Khan known as “Lewanay Falsafe” is a legendary & versatile great Pashto poet.He is the son of the greatest Pukhtoon leader the”Khudai Khidmatgar” Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Bacha Khan.
    He is from a great political family of Charsadda.
    His famous works are “Da Panjray Chaghaar”,”Da Ghani Quliyat”.his famous Quotes are……..
    Pashtun is not merely a race but, in fact, a state of mind; there is a Pashtun lying inside every man, who at times wakes up and overpowers him”.
    “The Pashtun, are rain sown wheat-they all came up on the same day they are all the same!…. But the chief reason why I love him is because he will wash his face and oil his beard and perfume his locks and put on his best pair of clothes when he goes out to fight and die”.
    As a progressive writer he wrote “I want to see my people educated and enlightened. A people with a vision and a strong sense of justice who can carve out a future for themselves, in harmony with nature”.
